The Bank has developed a strong portfolio of projects spread across the private and public sectors. This includes projects of varying sizes, including a highly successful private public partnership in terms of which the Development Bank of Namibia provided financing to local commercial banks for financing and mentoring small and medium enterprises.

The DBN extended a N$ 1.5 million bridging loan through its SME facility, the Special Development Fund, to A.D.S. to help it meet its obligations related to the production of the Botswana Telecommunication Corporation's 2006 telephone directory.
A.D.S. is a documentation production and communications enterprise offering a diversity of materials
to the business community.
Afro Installations CC (N$ 1.3 million)
Afro Installations CC is a subcontractor to a tender from the City of Windhoek awarded to 2M Civil Contractors for the Rehabilitation of the Khomasdal and Wanaheda Sewer Pump Stations. The client will use the N$1.3 million DBN loan as working capital and for the purchase of equipment.

Air Namibia (Pty) Limited (N$ 40 million)
DBN approved a loan of N$ 40 million for Air Namibia. The Government provided guarantees while it is considering appropriate budget allocations for the parastatal in the next fiscal period (April 2010 to March 2011).
The DBN loan will be used for working capital.
Aluminium & Glass Suppliers CC (N$ 2.9 millio)
Aluminium and Glass Suppliers CC (AGS) operates as a manufacturer and supplier of finished aluminium and glass products. The business is 100 % owned by a woman, Esvery Nair. AGS specialises in standard and non-standard aluminium and glass products ranging from windows to doors as well as subcontracting on large building and house contracts.
The business experienced an increase in the demand for its products and will use the DBN loan of N$ 2.9 million to purchase additional machinery to cater for the increased demand and in an effort to expand the business.

Alwina Blokstaan secured a contract from Roads Authority to maintain gravel roads in the Dordabis area.
AmsWohl Plant Hire CC (N$1,026 million Performance Guarantee)
Amswohl Plant Hire CC in conjunction with Askari Construction CC received a tender from the Ministry of Works for the bulk earthworks for construction of additional offices of the Ministry of Finance’s head offices in Windhoek.
The DBN awarded a performance guarantee of N$1,026 million to AmwsWohl to perform its contractual obligations.
Analytical Technology and Chemical Supply (Pty) Ltd/ ANATECH (N$ 582,525)
ANATECH (Pty) Ltd secured a contract with the National Institute of Pathology for the supply of laboratory consumables and instruments. The bridging finance loan will enable the promoter to meet his obligations.
Andreas Jacobus Swartz t/a A J Swartz Builders (N$ 1.5 million)
A J Swartz Builders secured two contracts with the Ministry of Works to renovate the Mariental Hospital and to construct sub regional offices at Aranos, in the Hardap Region.The DBN funds will be used for working capital, to purchase material and for a performance guarantee.
Anieb Bird Watching Camp(N$ 251,308.00)
The Municipality of Walvis Bay has contracted Anieb Bird Watching Camp to remove sludge and manure at its bird watch sites. Anieb Bird Watching Camp conducts bird watching tours in and around Bird Paradise, a man-made wetland within the Municipal area of Walvis Bay. The contract commenced in September 2009.
The DBN funding will be used for working capital and to purchase equipment and machinery.
Aqua Utilities Corporation (N$ 2.74 million )
The N$ 2.74 million loan extended to Aqua Utilities Corporation went towards building a sea-water purification plant for a fishing company; and is set to improve cost efficiency, with potential positive spin-offs for the fishing industry as a whole.
AUC provides and manages water and waste water treatment plants for communities, regional councils and industry.
Arandis Wood CC (N$ 1.055 million)
Arandis Wood Connection CC secured tenders with the Central Government Stores of the Ministry of Works for the supply of furniture. The bridging facility of N$1.055 million will enable the client to complete the tender.
A-Z Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd (N$600,000.00)
A-Z Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd secured a tender from Telecom Namibia to provide poles and outdoor advertising in the northern regions of Namibia. The bridging finance facility of N$ 600,000.00 will be used to purchase equipment, transport and working capital to be able to execute the contract.
Blacky & Maku Construction CC (N$ 1 million)
Blacky & Maku Construction CC was awarded two tenders by Nikodemus Architectural Design on behalf of Omusati Regional Council to construct three classrooms with a store room and five pit toilets at Amauba Primary School; and two large administration blocks and nine seat dry pit toilet blocks at Oshaala Combined School in the Omusati Region. The N$1 million DBN loan will enable the promoter to execute these two contracts.
BMZ Investments CC (N$ 1.45 million)
BMZ Investments CC was awarded an NHE tender to construct 40 core and 10 conventional houses in Krönlein, Keetmanshoop in the Karas Region, and another tender by the Roads Authority for the Renovation of the Cash Hall at the existing offices and vehicle testing station facilities at Windhoek NOSC (Natis Valley). The DBN bridging finance facility will go towards performance guarantees, to purchase vehicle/trailer and for working capital purposes.
Bold Expression CC (N$ 420,000.00)
Bold Expression secured a contract to supply and deliver refuse bins to the Municipality of Swakopmund.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase the refuse bins, an engraving and marking machine, and for working capital.
B Stephanus t/a B Stephanus Renovation & Electrical Works (N$ 500,000.00)
B Stephanus Renovation & Electrical Works secured a tender from the Ministry of Works to maintain, renovate and do minor works on low and high tension electrical installations for government ministries/departments and local authorities in the Karas, Hardap and Kavango regions.
The DBN funds will be used for working capital.
Camelthorn Breweries (N$ 10 million)
Camelthorn Breweries, an envisaged Micro Brewing Company, which will produce non-mainstream (non-mass produced) beer referred to as craft beer. If successful, this will be the first micro brewery in Namibia of this capacity and will produce high quality, fresh beer for the local and regional markets. The loan awarded constitutes a portion of the business’ start up capital.

Candino Mining & Construction secured a contract to supply and deliver refuse bins to the Municipality of Otjiwarongo.
The DBN funds will be used for the purchasing and transportation of the bins.

CENORED was created as a result of the government's electricity industry restructuring commitment. It was registered as a company in 2003, and has been granted a distribution and supply license for its area of responsibility by the Electricity Control Board. CENORED became fully operational in October 2005. CENORED's focus areas are Otjozondjupa, Oshikoto and Kunene Regions.
Central North Electricity Distribution Company (N$ 15 million )
DBN extended a N$ 15 million loan to CENORED to operationalise the company.
CENORED supplies electricity to households, businesses and farms in its geographical area.
CHW Enterprises (N$ 600 000.00)
CHW Enterprises secured an 18 month tender with the Roads Authority to construct the road from Onkani to Ekamba in the Omusati region using labour-based road construction methods. Project work is limited to de-bushing and excavation, in preparation for the main contractor to complete the road construction.
The loan facility awarded will be used for the purchase of machinery and equipment and for working capital.
City Truck & Car Repairs CC (N$ 300,000)
City Truck & Car Repairs CC secured a tender from the City of Windhoek to refurbish 16 municipal buses. The N$ 300,000 loan from the DBN will enable client to complete tender successfully.
Croxton Investment (N$ 3 million)
Croxton Investment is a retailer of products such as solar water heaters and solar street lighting, and products that are used to provide solar energy in general. The business is one of the few companies in Namibia that are authorised to distribute SUNTECH solar products, Zhenfa solar street/road lighting products and Haokang solar water heaters, in Southern Africa.
Deco Engineering & Engineering CC (N$ 350,000)
Deco-Engineering & Construction has been awarded two tenders, one by Oshikoto Regional Council and another by Ohangwena Regional Council to construct four new classrooms and latrine facilities at the two schools, Elago Primary School and Omuuva Junior Primary School respectively.
Decorative Property Development CC (N$ 2.8 million)
Decorative Property Development secured a contract to renovate the Okahao District Hospital in the Omusati Region.
The DBN support is in the form of a performance guarantee.
Duiker One Hundred & Thirty Four (N$ 5.7 million)
The project involves the establishment of advanced radiological facilities at Ongwediva, which reduce the need for medical travel to other towns. DBN extended a loan to the value of N$ 5.71 million to Duiker Investments for the purchase of radiography equipment to set up a medical imaging practice in the north, which until its establishment had rudimentary services.
Dynamite Investment CC(N$ 440,000.00)
Dynamite Investment secured a tender to mow grass in reserves in the Otjozondjupa region. The N$440,000.00 DBN loan will be used to purchase a tractor and for working capital to enable the client to meet his contractual obligations.
Edu-Loan Namibia (N$ 4.75 million )
DBN had purchased 475 bonds worth N$ 4.75 million in Edu-Loan to extend loans to close to 230 Namibians. Besides benefiting from access to financing, Edu-Loan clients also stand to benefit from a unique arrangement between DBN and Edu-Loan through which the latter will pass the benefit of DBN's interest rate on to clients.
They will do this by contributing the money being saved thus, plus an additional contribution from Edu-Loan's own sources, towards a bursary fund.
Emirate Trading CC (N$ 450,000)
Emirate Trading CC secured a tender to build additional classrooms at the Pendukeni Invula Ithana Combined School in Okalongo. The DBN bridging finance facility of N$450,000 will help the client to fulfil his tender requirements.
Enviro-Fill Namibia (N$ 1 million)
The City of Windhoek entered into a Joint Development Agreement with Enviro-Fill Namibia to extend the lifespan of the Kupferberg land fill site. DBN provided a three year, N$ 1 million bridging finance facility to Enviro-Fill Namibia to fulfil its contractual obligations to the City.
Enviro-Fill Namibia is a joint venture between South Africans and Namibians with Previously Disadvantaged Namibians owning 48% of the shares in the company and also driving its operations.
The health of the environment is a key concern at present and for future generations of Namibians. Enviro-Fill's initiatives reduce the effect of pollution and environmental damage.
Epafras & Mathilde Civil & Building Construction CC (N$ 600 000.00)
Epafras & Mathilde Civil & Building Construction secured an 18 month tender from the Roads Authority for the construction of the road from Onkani to Ekamba in the Omusati region using labour-based road construction methods. Exclusive Health & Wellness (N$ 3.3 million)
Exclusive Health & Wellness will be operating a health and fitness centre in Windhoek from leased premises in the Old Power Station Complex.
The DBN funds will be used for furniture and fitting cost, to purchase gym equipment and for working capital.
Evi Gold Mining (N$ 3.9 million)
The client requested DBN approval for a N$ 3.9 million preference share investment in Evi Gold (Pty) Ltd (Evi). Evi used the proceeds of the investment to finance its 2 per cent share option in Avdale Namibia (Pty) Ltd in the Oshikoto region. The total subscription price amounts to US$1.1 million, of which half was sourced from a co-financing partner.
Ferdinand FS t/a Mwatalapombanda Construction (N$ 420,000.00)
Mwatalapombanda Construction secured a tender to mow grass in reserves in the Khomas region. The N$ 420,000.00 DBN loan will be used to purchase a tractor and for working capital to enable the client to meet his contractual obligations.
Gas Probe Namibia (N$ 500,000)
The client requested an additional bridging finance facility of N$500,000 for the rehabilitation of their Khorixas water infrastructure tender.
Gawachab Contractor CC (N$ 535,000)
Gawachab Contractor won a tender for blading maintenance of gravel roads in area 76 in the Keetmanshoop District.
Glory Construction (Pty) Ltd (N$ 550,000)
Glory Construction secured a four month tender from Namibia Development Corporation to upgrade Namibia Beverages in Oshakati.
Helena Construction CC (N$ 1,04 million)
Helena Construction CC was awarded two tenders for the construction of a clinic in the Corridor Post 13, Aminuis commune in the Omaheke Region and accommodation facilities for rural water extension centres at Berseba in the Karas Region.
The loan will provide for two guarantee facilities valued at N$ 467,000 and a working capital facility of N$ 572,000 that will enable the client to carry out its contractual obligations.
Henties Bay Municipality (N$ 15 million)
Henties Bay has been given a loan for the planning, design and development of serviced infrastructure such as roads, storm-water drainage, electricity, water, and sewer reticulation for Henties Bay Municipality to expand service stands for residential development in Extension 10. This will create 252 residential and institutional erven.
HPK Earthworks CC (N$ 941,275.00)
HPK Eartworks secured a tender from the Caprivi Regional Council for the provision of a sewer pump station and services infrastructure.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase machinery and equipment, while part of it is a performance guarantee.
Indigenous Construction (N$ 5 million)
Indigenous Construction was awarded a contract by the Roads Authority for the construction of a gravel road from Kongola to the Zambian border with a shorter leg from Kongola to the Quarantine Camp in the Caprivi region. The corporation required funding to purchase machinery and equipment to carry out the contract. 30 people will be employed during the contract period.I-S Airfreight & Road Services (N$ 3.5 million)
I-S Airfreight & Road Services provides courier services. It specialises in overnight, two-day and three to four day economy road transport to and from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Windhoek; as well as overnight road freight between Windhoek, Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. The company has outgrown its business premises in Prosperita and bought a new plot and truck to grow its operations. I-S Airfreight & Road Services employs 37 full time staff, which is set to increase to 45.
JCS Seafood Marketing
JCS Seafood Marketing buys and sells Namibian fish and fish products locally and in the international market. In August 2006, JCS entered into an agreement with a processing plant through which the factory allows JCS to catch up to 1,500 metric tonnes of their hake quota and process the catch at the factory at a processing fee.
DBN's N$ 5.5 million facility is being used to acquire and refurbish a fishing vessel for this purpose. The company provides 36 jobs.
Jen’s Electrical Contractor (N$750,000.00)
Jen’s Electrical Contractor secured a 3 year sub-contract (from J&P Group International (Pty) Ltd ) to provide electrical maintenance services work at the town of Oranjemund. The client will use the loan of N$ 750,000 for working capital and the purchase of tools, vehicles and a truck.
JJ Property Developers CC (N$ 3 million)
JJ Property Developers secured a contract from the Khomas Regional Council for alterations and additions to the Parkfoods Shopping Complex in Khomasdal.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase building material, for working capital while part of it is a performance guarantee.

JMS Southern Investments secured a Karas Regional Council tender for the construction of sewerage reticulation networks at Tses.

Based in the Erongo Region, JOM Renovations builds and renovates residential, commercial and government properties. It provides 15 jobs. The company has been in existence for two years and is owned by three previously disadvantaged Namibians. DBN extended a N$ 500,000 loan to JOM Construction to buy equipment and for working capital to service a government contract.
Johannes N Alugodhi t/a Alugodhi Trading (N$ 610,000.00)
Alugodhi Trading secured a tender from the Roads Authority to construct box culvert structures and embankment protection works in the Oshakati district of the Oshana Region.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase machinery and equipment.

John Namusheshe Construction secured a tender to mow grass in reserves in the Khomas region, Windhoek. The N$ 420,000.00 DBN loan will be used to purchase a tractor and for working capital to enable the client to meet his contractual obligations.

J Schneider Builders purchased land from the Town Council of Helao Nafidi for sub-division and development. The promoter will install the necessary services and construct residential homes for sale to the general public.

Kale Bricks & Construction secured a tender from the Ministry of Works to construct a new Primary Health Care Clinic and staff accommodation at Epoko in the Omusati Region on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

This company secured a six month contract for the construction of a river crossing structure over the Omaruru River at Okombahe in the Erongo Region, using labour-based construction methods. The loan is for machinery and equipment to carry out the contractual work. The business will employ about 50 task workers over a six-month period.

Kamwiitulwa Electric & Building Construction secured a seven month tender from the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development to construct a new Okatana Constituency Office in Uukwangula.
K & G Bricks CC (N$ 2.96 million)
K & G Bricks was awarded a tender by the City of Windhoek to construct a new fire station along the Otjomuise Road in Khomasdal.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase equipment, a vehicle, for working capital, while part of it is a performance guarantee.
Karukongo Building Contractors
Project amount: N$ 500,000
The SME secured a contract for the construction of concrete works and a culvert on the road from Kongola to the Zambian border and the road to the Quarantine Camp in the Caprivi Region, using labour-based construction methods. The business will employ three experts and ten task workers.
Kazo Farming (N$ 3.35 million)
Kazo Farming is an independent cattle and small stock farmer, livestock trader who plans to provide premium preserved beef products directly to consumers. To accomplish this Kazo Farming plans to obtain their own processing plant and control the marketing of their products from the farm to the consumer. Recently the promoter successfully negotiated to purchase an existing abattoir facility situated at Gobabis and plans to upgradeit to operational standard.
The bank’s loan of N$ 3.35 million will be used for the purchase of the building, machinery and equipment.
Kennethy Shetukana t/a Turora Construction (N$ 300,000.00)
Turora Construction is one of five contractors awarded a tender for the construction of 62 low cost houses by the Municipality of Grootfontein. This business has been assigned 14 houses in Grootfontein.
The loan will be used to purchase building material and for working capital.
Kheiseb Construction CC (N$ 17,352 million)
Kheiseb Construction has been awarded a tender by Gachikamau Architect (principal agent) on behalf of the Ministry of Works and Transport to construct new hostels, a kitchen and dining hall at the Sangwali Secondary School in the Caprivi region.
The DBN loan of N$ 17.3 million will be used to purchase building material, machinery, equipment, and for working capital.
KKKK Enterprises (N$ 350,000)
KKKK Enterprise was awarded a tender for the construction of educational facilities at Nghiteke Primary School in the Ohangwena Region. The facilities include four class rooms, a store room and toilets. The loan is a working capital facility of N$ 350,000 that will enable the company to carry out its contractual obligations.
KM Plumbing & Construction CC (N$ 180,000.00)
KM Plumbing & Construction secured a tender for servicing and fitting car accessories such as exhausts and bull/tow bars to government vehicles in Katima Mulilo. KM Plumbing & Construction was established in October 2004 and this is their first service contract.
The DBN loan of N$180,000.00 will assist the promoter to acquire a wheel alignment machine.
Landsberg Drilling & Blasting CC (N$ 3.85 million)
Landsberg Drilling & Blasting CC has been awarded a sub-contract for drilling and blasting which forms part of the upgrading of the main road from Okahao to the Omakange road.

Leading Construction has secured a tender to supply and delivery bread to seven prisons in Namibia, for a period of 2 years. The business is currently operating from a premise in Ombili. Leading Construction is in the process of expanding their current operations.
Lewcore Plant Hire CC (N$ 3 million)
Lewcore Plant Hire secured a contract to provide drilling and haulage services to the Navachab Gold Mine in the Karibib Area of the Erongo Region.
The DBN funds will be used for working capital.
L. Goliath Construction & Civil Works
Project amount: N$ 988,902
Mr. Lemuel Goliath was contracted by the Roads Authority to construct a river crossing over the Hoanib River in the Kunene region. The project involves construction of a concrete crossing structure at the bottom of the river, using labour-based methods. Mr. Goliath required funding for working capital, tools and material to carry out the contract. Up to 120 casual workers from surrounding communities will be employed through the project.
Longeni Electrical Contractors CC (N$ 500,000.00)
Longeni Electrical Contractors secured two tenders from the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication to do electrical installations at the doctors’ single quarters at the Central Hospital in Windhoek and electrical installations for the Prison Training College in Omaruru. Both tenders will run over 12 months.
The DBN loan will be used for working capital to ensure the successful execution of the tenders.
Mangalangandja Construction and Renovations CC (N$ 400 000)
Mangalangandja Construction & Renovations CC was awarded tenders for the construction of educational facilities at Twaalulilwa Combined School, Oshakati Junior Primary School, Ounonge Primary School and Omashekediva Primary School in the Ohangwena and Oshana regions respectively. The facilities include a four classroom block and a store room at the high schools and a two class room block at the primary schools.
The DBN loan granted is a working capital facility of N$ 400,000.00 that will enable the business to complete its contractual obligations.
Mavinga Trading Enterprises (N$ 500,000.00)
Mavinga Trading Enterprises secured a contract from Roads Authority for bitumen road maintenance in the Grootfontein district. The contract is for a period of 24 months from June 2009 to May 2011.
The DBN loan of N$ 500,000.00 will be used to purchase equipment, tools and materials.
M. Richter Construction (N$ 600,000.00)
M. Richter Construction secured a tender for labour-based construction of from Ekamba to Onkani in the Omusati. The tender duration is 18 months.
The DBN loan of N$ 600,000.00 was used to purchase a vehicle, machinery and for working capital.
M. Shikongo Investments
Project amount: N$ 250,000
M. Shikongo Investments secured a contract with the Roads Authority to put up and replace road signs in the Rundu and Katima Mulilo districts. The corporation required a loan for two trucks to carry out the work. Eight full time and 12 temporary workers will be employed.
M. Shikongo Investments CC (N$ 1.65 million & N$ 2,698,568.00)
M. Shikongo Investments secured a contract to construct a new warehouse for the Ministry of Finance in Oshakati. The DBN funds will be used for working capital and to purchase materials.
In addition, M. Shikongo Investment secured two tenders for the construction of a new Regional Office for the Ministry of Labour in Swakopmund and a contract for the construction of new staff accommodation facilities for the Ministry of Health and Social Services in the Erongo region.
The DBN facility of N$ 2.6 million will be used to purchase materials, for working capital and include a performance guarantee of N$ 1.4 million.
MC Bouers
Project amount: N$ 1.5 million)
MC Bouers has been awarded a tender by the Lüderitz Town Council to build 48 low cost houses.
NamClay Bricks
NamClay started operating in Uis in 2006. The town has been bleeding since the tin mine closed more than 15 years ago and it seems as if the project could bring much-needed life to the area.
A clay brick and paver manufacturer, NamClay Bricks will provide an initial 68 jobs; extract clay from old mine slime dams and use the proceeds to rehabilitate the mine; produce a brick ideal to weather conditions at the Namibian coast; and, with a maximum pressure strength of 40 Mega Pascal (MPa), produce a brick of such strength that quite tall buildings can be erected without requiring re-enforced concrete structures.
DBN extended a N$ 5.5 million loan to the project to acquire equipment including kilns, which will improve the company's efficiency, as well as for working capital.
Namibia Cleaning Chemicals Solutions CC (N$ 209 196.49)
Namibia Chemicals Solutions CC secured two tenders to supply and deliver electrical kiosk and water meters and to supply and deliver necessary new material for engineering services. To effect the requirements of the tender, the client lent N$ 209,196.49 from the DBN.
Namibia Cleaning Chemicals Solutions CC (N$ 183,232.42)
Namibia Cleaning Chemicals Solutions secured a tender for the construction of 20 low cost houses for the municipality of Grootfontein. The 10% performance guarantee of N$ 183,232.42 from the DBN will enable the promoter to affect the requirements of the tender.

Namibia Cleaning Chemicals Solutions secured a tender from the Oshana Regional Council to construct sewerage treatment works and an access road at Uukwangula.

Namibia Economic Development Services CC (N$ 176,806.64)
Namibia Economic Development Services CC (NEDS) secured a tender to complete the Uib-Oas Cooperative market 30 km outside Usakos on the turnoff to Henties Bay (small miners market place), in the Erongo Region. To fulfil the tender requirements the borrower obtained the N$176,806.64 bridging finance facility from the DBN.

The N$ 8 million loan to Namibia Stone Processing facilitated actual commencement of the biggest dimension stone processing facility in Africa
NamPost Limited
The N$ 15 million loan to Namibia Post Limited was used to acquire a 50 per cent shareholding in SmartSwitch Namibia (Pty Ltd), to establish a smart card switching payment system in Namibia. The partnership brings modern banking services to low income and rural segments of the country's population, in line with DBN's endeavour to support pro-poor initiatives.
Namtranslations Services CC (N$ 3 million)
Namtranslations Services CC secured a tender to supply and deliver cooking oil to the Oshikoto and Kavango region in Namibia. To carry out the tender, the borrower requested a bridging finance facility of N$ 3,000,000 from the DBN.
Nangolo Construction
Project amount: N$ 2.5 million
Nangolo Construction will carry out construction of the new offices for the Kunene Regional Council. Nangolo Construction will also construct the Khomas Regional Council Constituency Offices.
National Housing Enterprise
DBN extended a N$ 30 million loan to NHE to install bulk infrastructure services such as water and sewage reticulation, storm water drainage and electrification, which will create 374 erven in a currently unserviced area of Katima Mulilo. NHE will also construct houses on these erven for low to middle income groups. Installation of bulk infrastructure in a currently un-serviced part of Katima Mulilo will, furthermore, contribute to increasing availability of improved and safe services like clean water, sanitation and regulated electricity supply.
In addition, NHE will construct 130 houses for sale (mortgage finance) in Ondangwa (60 houses), Katima Mulilo (50 houses) and Outapi (20 houses) for low to middle income groups. The project aims to address the housing backlog for these income groups in those areas. It is aligned to DBN's mandate to support initiatives that uplift the living standards of lower income groups.
Network Energy Solutions (Pty) Ltd (N$ 2.8 million)
Network Energy Solutions secured a tender to provide solutions, equipment and services for MTC’s Optic Fibre Metro Ring project on a turnkey basis.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase equipment, for working capital while part of it is a performance guarantee.Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd (N$120 million)
Ohorongo Cement (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Schwenk Namibia (Pty) Ltd invited DBN to participate in funding its planned cement manufacturing factory, which will be located in the Otavi district, Otjozondjupa Region. Schwenk Namibia is a 100% subsidiary of the German cement manufacturer Schwenk Zement. The cement plant, which will have a production capacity of 700,000 tons per annum, will be designed to cater for both the cement needs of the country and as well as for exports. Given the production capacity of 700,000 tons, it was established that the project site has high quality deposit of raw material, estimated to last for over 300 years.
The DBN opted to participate for an amount of N$ 120 million in debt. Total project costs are estimated at N$3.2 billion at market exchange prices.
Okavango River Bridge (Road Fund Administration)
The Road Fund Administration (RFA) works to secure and allocate sufficient funding for the achievement of a safe and economically efficient road sector.
As part of its mandate, the RFA applied for a N$ 10 million loan from DBN to upgrade the Okavango River Bridge on the TransCaprivi Highway. The upgrade will increase cargo handling and, as a result, facilitate increased trade between Namibia and its neighbours, earning foreign exchange for the country.
The TransCaprivi Corridor is particularly important to Namibia as it links the port of Walvis Bay with Zambia, the DRC, Zimbabwe and other countries in the Great Lakes region. The current limited carrying capacity of the Okavango River Bridge is given as a core infrastructure bottleneck for industrial and mining development in the region. 17 permanent and 50 temporary jobs will be created as a result.
Okongo Investments CC (N$ 230,000.00)
Okongo Investments secured a tender from Roads Authority to construct box culvert structures and embankment protection works in the Oshakati District.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase building materials and for working capital.
Omhalanga Mills CC (N$ 4 million)
Omhalanga will establish a maize milling business in Ongwediva. The maize grain will be sourced locally during the close season and during the open season maize will be imported. The maize will be sold primarily locally, and in the southern Angolan market in 5kg, 10kg, 20kg and 50kg bags.
The DBN loan will be used to purchase equipment and machinery and for working capital.
Omkumo Construction and Bojashwi Construction
Project amounts: N$ 500,000 each
These women-owned SMEs secured contracts with the Roads Authority for the construction of a gravel road between Muyako and Ngoma in the Caprivi Region, using labour-based construction methods. The project work, which covers a distance of 12 km for each of the SMEs, is limited to de-bushing and excavation, in preparation for the main contractor to complete the road. DBN provided facilities of N$ 500,000 to each, to acquire tools and equipment. Each SME is required to employ up to 150 task workers during their 18-month contract periods.
The increase in support to SMEs in road construction is a consequence of DBN's undertaking to facilitate these businesses' entry and growth in a field to which most are new.
Omuthiya Enterprises CC (N$35,000)
Omuthiya Enterprises was awarded a tender for the construction of educational facilities at Amwiimbi Combined School and Omboloka Combined School in the Ohangwena Region. At each school, four class rooms will be built. The loan is a working capital facility of N$ 350,000 that will enable it to carry out its contractual obligations.
Onandjaba Construction (Pty) Ltd

Onandjaba Construction (Pty) Ltd won a tender to construct Hangars at Grootfontein Airforce Base.
Ongopolo Mining & Processing
The DBN extended a N$ 30 million Bridging Facility to Ongopolo Mining and Processing. Ongopolo is the only copper mining and processing company in Namibia. Its existence enables the country to exploit its copper resources with corresponding positive socio-economic impacts.
Ongwediva MediPark
Project amount: N$ 6,500,000
In April 2007, DBN introduced a Preference Share Facility to assist businesses in cases where debt funding might not be the appropriate financing mechanism, and which improves the structure of the business. This arrangement lessens the burden of debt on the business. The facility makes it possible for good projects that may have had gearing problems, to become viable.
The N$ 6.5 million facility to the Ongwediva MediPark is in the form of Preference Shares. The project involves the establishment of advanced medical facilities at Ongwediva.
Oshikango / Fatima Plastics
Project amount: N$ 4,900,000
Oshikango Plastics (Pty) Ltd is a new company owned by previously disadvantaged Namibians and established for the purpose of acquiring a 30 per cent shareholding in Fatima Plastics. Fatima Plastics is an existing business involved in the manufacturing of household plastic goods at Oshikango. DBN's assistance is in the form of preference share investments in Oshikango Plastics, which, in turn, used the proceeds to purchase 30 per cent ordinary shares in Fatima Plastics.
The funds Fatima's shareholders obtained were reinvested in the business, and was used for raw material and additional equipment. Fatima currently employs 78 people who work on two production shifts in 24 hours. An additional 10 people will be employed.
Oshikuluvala Investment CC (N$ 2.4 million)
Oshikuluvala Investment secured a tender from the City of Windhoek to upgrade the Khomasdal Municipal Building.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase a vehicle, for working capital while part of it is a performance guarantee.

Owambo Building Construction secured a tender from the Ministry of Works and Transport to construct regional offices and workshops for the department of works at Omuthiya.

Pamona Trading Enterprises CC (N$ 3 million)
Pomona secured a contract with the Ministry of Defence to erect 6 army barracks, three at Gobabis, Omaheke Region and another three barracks at Otavi, in the Otjozondjupa Region. Pamona obtained a DBN bridging facility of N$ 3 million to import materials.
Pasinami Construction CC (N$ 2.35 million)
Pasinami Construction secured a contract from the Ministry of Works and Transport for the construction of the Maria Mwengere Youth Centre in Rundu, Kavango Region.

The promoter secured a contract from Roads Authority to maintain bitumen roads in the Usakos district, Erongo Region. The Promoter thus requested bridging finance of N$ 306,657 to execute the tender.
Polyflora Coffins
Project amount: N$ 800 000
The company manufactures coffins, caskets, and domes which they distribute to a broad client base throughout Namibia. The business has entered into an agreement with Northern Funeral Undertakers to supply them with funeral related products, except for those products which the undertakers can produce themselves.
PowerCom
DBN extended a N$ 30.5 million Line of Credit to PowerCom's bankers in 2006 to facilitate shipment of equipment to Namibia to launch the company. The 2007 facility to PowerCom is a N$ 9 million bridging loan and a N$ 20 million guarantee for the roll-out of Cell One in the country. At the closure of these three facilities in 2007, the DBN then extended a Standby Debt Facility of N$60 million to ensure capital structuring for the project. The standby facility is only to be drawdown subject to various project parameters being met.
Apart from creating 106 direct jobs of which 86% are Namibians, PowerCom will generate substantial economic benefits in terms of its contribution to GDP, generation of government revenues through payment of various taxes, and increased competition in the telecommunications sector. The company's 15-year licence requires it to build a nation-wide network providing coverage to 95% of the populated areas of the country within a five year period.
Premium Computer Services
Project amount: N$ 346,438
Premium Computer Services secured a 5 week tender from Rural Poverty Reduction Programme coordinated by the National Planning Commission to acquire, deliver and install information technology equipment for Regional Councils for use by the Rural Poverty Reduction Programme.
Proqual Diagnostic Imaging CC (N$ 4.2 million)
DBN awarded an initial loan to Proqual Diagnostic Imaging CC in May 2008. This is a loan in addition to the initial for the purpose of equipment, the cost of which has increased beyond projections due to exchange rate fluctuations.
Queridas Enterprises CC (N$ 5.2 million)
Queridas Enterprises CC intends to put up infrastructure for a petrol filling station to trade under the Shell franchise brand, which is to be situated along the Ongwediva-Oshakati main road in the Oshana Region. The DBN loan of N$5.2 million will enable the client to establish the service station.
Rehoboth Properties
Project amount: N$ 1.7 million and Performance Guarantee - N$ 1,270,000)
Rehoboth Properties is engaged in upgrading various intersections within the southern boundaries of the Windhoek Central Business District. Furthermore, it entails accommodation of traffic, road layer works, bituminous surfacing, laying of kerbs and provision of road signs and markings. It is also constructing sewage infrastructure in Rehoboth.
Roama Gates Manufacturers
Project amount: N$ 2,000.000
Roama Gates Manufacturers makes and distributes farm, residential and security gates, as well as steel posts, and refuse bins. These goods are currently being manufactured manually by 15 employees from a rented NDC workshop in Ondangwa, but the company intends to mechanise the process to improve the quality of products and to increase production. DBN's N$ 2 million loan will go towards financing this expansion through which an additional 15 jobs will be created

Romas Trading Enterprises cc (Romas) won a tender for blading maintenance of gravel roads in area 77 in the Keetmanshoop District.
Ruhe Construction & Office Equipment Supplier (N$ 350,000)
The client has secured a tender to construct educational facilities at the Etomba Comdined School in Ondobe in the Ohangwena Region. The loan will be utilized for the purchase of building materials.
R. Beukes Properties CC (N$ 1,706,119.98)
The client, R. Beukes Properties acquired two tenders from the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication for upgrading and extending the existing police station building in Luderitz and for upgrading and renovating the Keetmanshoop District Hospital, phase 1. The loan will assist the client in suCCessfully delivering on the tenders.

Salute Trading CC has secured a tender to supply and deliver cooking oil to the Kunene Region as part of the Office of the Prime Minister’s Drought relief programme. The loan of N$1,818,801.60 will enable the client to honour her commitment to the programme.
San Karros (N$ 30 million)
San Karros, a subsidiary of Prosperity Africa Holdings, entered into a public private partnership agreement to refurbish, upgrade and manage the Daan Viljoen resort.
The period for the lease agreement 30 years but the agreement is renewable for a further 30 years.
Once upgraded, San Karros will focus on three market segments, namely, general tourism (both local and international), the meeting/conference industry and medical and health tourism.
The DBN funds will be used to refurbish the existing infrastructure in order to reposition the resort for segments to include the health tourist market.
Sash Trading Enterprises CC (N$ 537,000.00)
Sash Trading Enterprises secured a contract from the Roads Contractor Company (RCC) to transport gravel for re-graveling, rehabilitation and construction purposes in Oshakati.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase vehicles and for working capital.
Seafresh Investments
DBN extended N$ 4.2 million to Seafresh Investments to establish an oyster farm in Walvis Bay.
On the basis of the worldwide oyster production figures available to the Food and agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Namibia was the 25th major oyster producer in the world in 2004, just ahead of South Africa. It is projected that Namibia will move to 16th position by 2008.
By supporting this project, DBN supports oyster cultivation, increased exports, and employment creation in this growing industry.
Sedge Investments
Sedge Investments cc has secured three contracts to erect new road signs and replace old ones in Oshakati, Grootfontein and Okahandja and Gobabis and one bitumen road maintenance contract with the Roads Authority.
Singleton Building & Steel Construction

Singleton Building & Steel Construction has secured a contract from NHE to construct 20 houses at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango region.
SLS Crushers CC (N$ 10.6 million)
SLS Crushers CC is an existing business currently operating a crush plant at Omukwa Uuwanga, in the Ruacana vicinity of the Omusati Region.
The company wants to expand its manufacturing operations to manufacture bricks at the same location.
The company has secured a solid market in the northern regions of the country, supplying crusher dust, slurry dust, stones, concrete stones and sand mainly to small and large contractors, individuals and construction companies.
The manufacturing sector presents opportunities for skills development and increasing economic activity in the northern regions. SLS Crushers will complement industrialisation in the region.
The company intends to provide concrete products at competitive prices as well as cutting out on transport costs and service delivery delays to consumers.
Due to its location at Ruacana, SLS Crusher can supply the Omusati, Oshana and Kunene Regions. Their main competitor Henning Crusher is situated in Ondangwa, 200km from Ruacana, with its crush plant in Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region.
The DBN loan will be used to expand the plant to cater for a brick making division.

SP Brick warehouse cc (N$ 11.3 million)
SP Brick Warehouse obtained a loan of N$ 11.3 million from the DBN to construct a semi automated commercial brick making plant at Helao Nafidi Town in the Ohangwena Region.The DBN loan will be used to purchase vehicles, a brick making machine, and for working capital.
SNA Trading Enterprises cc (N$ 5 million)
SNA Trading Enterprises wants to establish a warehouse at Katwitwi border post and export building material to Angola.
These materials will include amongst others cement, window and door frames, paint, roofing materials etc as well as tools used in the construction industry. SNA indicated that their license will also permit them to export household consumables including food items.
The advantage of exporting through a bonded warehouse comes from the exemption from import duties (custom & excises duties and VAT) which immediately lowers the purchase prices of good to their foreign clients.
The business will be located near the untapped market of the Cuando Cubango province of southern Angola.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase vehicles, for working capital and to construct a corrugated roof structure to store products that need protection against rain and sun.

Stucos Builders and Cement Suppliers obtained a contract from Roads Authority for blading maintenance of a gravel road in the Otjiwarongo area, Otjozondjupa Region.

Teleline Trading Enterprises CC (N$ 973,475.00)
Teleline Trading Enterprises secured a contract from Telecom Namibia for the provision of civil works, which include the installing complete copper/optic fibre overhead and/or underground cable lines-hauling, jointing and related works. The contract duration is 36 months.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase vehicles, tools, machinery and for working capital.
TransNamib Holdings
Project amount: N$ 14 million
TransNamib Holdings needed financing to allow the company to continue to trade. The need for the bridging facility arose after a devastating strike for a period of seven days in September 2008, crippled the company. The facility was collateralised by a government guarantee.
Trustco Education (Pty) Ltd (N$15 million)
Trustco Education (Pty) Ltd is a subsidiary of Trustco Group International (TGI), a listed company on the Namibia Stock Exchange. Trustco Education (TE) has two operating subsidiaries, Trustco Finance (TF) and Institute of Open Learning (IOL) that provides educational microloans and courses respectively.
The DBN N$15 million loan awarded to Trustco Finance will be used specifically for providing micro-loans to teachers upgrading their qualifications, with a view of improving the quality of education service delivery in Namibia.
Tulonga Construction and Renovation CC (N$ 600 000)
Tulonga Construction and Renovation CC secured a tender to renovate educational facilities at the Oshakati Senior Secondary School in Oshakati in the Oshana Region. The bridging finance facility of N$ 600 000 will be used to purchase building materials for construction and renovation.
Tutungeni Building Brokers & Cleaning Services CC (N$ 270,000.00)
Tutungeni Building Brokers & Cleaning Services secured a tender from the Oshikoto Regional Council to construct two accommodation units at the Okashana Rural Development Centre.

T. J. Civils Technology has secured a three year contract for the Levelling of Garden Refuse and Building Rubble at the Municipal Landfill Sites from the City of Windhoek. The bridging finance facility of N$ 977,500 will enable client to fulfil its contractual obligations.

Ugab Terrace Lodge CC will use the N$4.2 million loan to expand their lodgings to increase capacity.
Vantage Enterprises CC (N$ 5 million)
Vantage Enterprises CC secured a one year tender from the Ministry of Works and Transport on behalf of the Ministry of Defence for the construction of Keetmanshoop Military Base, Phase 7 in the Karas Region. The promoter was granted a DBN bridging finance facility of N$5 million to purchase building material, equipment, and for working capital purposes.
Walvis Bay Salt Holdings (N$ 30 million)
Walvis Bay Salt Holdings obtained a loan of N$ 30 million from the DBN to construct a salt refinery plant with a capacity of 12 metric tonnes of refined salt per hour.
Walvis Bay Salt Holdings is a salt operation with two subsidiaries – Salt & Chemicals, a mining operation and Walvis Bay Salt Refiners, a manufacturing company.
Salt & Chemicals produces crude salt by way of solar evaporation of sea water which it sells to Walvis Bay Salt Refiners. Walvis Bay Salt Refiners in turn processes the crude salt into finished products being chemical grade salt and general purpose grade coarse salt. The products are mainly exported to Southern and West African countries.
The DBN funds will be used to construct suitable premises to house the refining plant and sufficient warehousing for the finished product, as well as the plant and equipment required for processing the crude salt into a fully refined product.
Water Engineering Africa CC (N$ 214,000.00)
Water Engineering Africa was awarded a contract to supply and deliver a Hydraulic Pump to the Aroab Village Council.
The DBN funds will be used to purchase machinery and for working capital.
Wendjizuva Pharmacy
Wendjizuva Pharmacy is 100% owned by a young Namibian woman and has been in operation since June 2004. Expansion has, however, been hampered by a lack of capital to buy more stock. DBN issued a one year payment guarantee for N$ 500,000 to the pharmacy's creditors to enable it to purchase stock through a revolving credit facility secured by the payment guarantee. The facility will help retain five jobs.
The venture is a further step towards opening up the retail pharmaceutical industry to Black Economic Empowerment participants
Women Mahangu Producers CC (N$ 260,000.00)
Women Mahangu Producers secured a contract from Atlantic Food Services to supply mahangu and mahangu products to schools in the Oshana Region for a period of five years.
