Sven Thieme Board of Directors
The DBN Board, which is established according to the provisions of the DBN Act, consists of seven directors, of which three are appointed by the Minister of Finance; the Government of the Republic of Namibia being the present sole shareholder in the Bank.

The cornerstone of DBN’s governance framework is its Board Rules. The principles put forward in the Rules are put into practice by Management and by the various Sub-Committees of the Board, namely the Audit, Risk and Compliance; the Credit and Investment; Human Capital and Remuneration; and the Special Development Fund Committees.

Human capital
The DBN staff’s activities are directed towards the Bank’s mission. Four principles drive the Bank’s functions:

Core operational activities focused on providing development finance for viable projects in order to facilitate and promote development in Namibia and the SADC region.
Realisation that the DBN can have a positive impact on development through broader facilitation activities, as well as its financing activities.
Management of a Special Development Fund, as a separate ring-fenced entity, to address SME development requirements.
Incremental growth of a lean and efficient organisation based on market driven requirements.

Core values
Namibia First Our decisions and actions are guided by what will be best for Namibia.
Integrity We focus on doing the right thing, matching deeds with words.
Transparency Our policies and practices are clear and visible to all.
Professionalism We prefer to be judged by our purposefulness and the standards of our workmanship and communications.
Sustainability We only support initiatives that are financially and economically feasible, socially equitable and environmentally responsible as only such initiatives are likely to have lasting development impact and contribute to the sustainability of the Bank.
Innovation While we have continuity of purpose, we are always ready to adopt better methods and to stop doing what is no longer effective.
